Darbar Shri Guru Ram Rai Ji Maharaj,
Dehradun
Darbar Shri Guru Ram Rai Ji Maharaj
is a religious and philanthropic organisation founded by Shri Guru Ram Rai Ji,
son of Shri Guru Har Rai Ji, the seventh Sikh Guru. It dates back to 1676 AD.
The city of Dehradun was christened so, when Shri Ruru Ram Rai Ji set up his
"Dera" (Settlement) in Doon Valley. The then Mughal emperor Aurangzeb
gifted the town of Dehradun (in its original splendour, it was of 6 villages)
to the Guru. The rich heritage and golden history is quite evident in the
architectural splendour of the Darbar and the holy Gurudwara.
Sajjada Nashin Shri Mahant
Darbar Sahib, its properties and
institutions are administered by its Sajjada Nashin Shri Mahant. The Sajjada
Nashin Shri Mahants are sequentially nominated by the Sajjada Nashin during his
life time. The ninth Mahant Brahmaleen Shri Indiresh Charan Dass Ji Maharaj, a
great educationist of 20th century, had a vision of rendering services for the
promotion of social well-being through education and healthcare. His disciple
and successor Shri Mahant Devendra Dass Ji has transformed his dream into
reality. Under his dynamic leadership SGRR Educational Mission is progressing
by leaps and bounds. In 2017, SGRR University was established.
